My Inspiration. My Passion. My Mission.

Approximately forty six children are diagnosed with cancer each day.

Cancer does not discriminate and is the leading cause of death by disease among U.S. children.

By the time my daughter finished the fifth grade, she'd already lost two friends to this disease.  Both were beautiful little girls, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in the third grade.

As a parent, I desperately needed something to help me explain the impending death of a child to my own child. There was an elephant in the room, and it was then that I realized that I would write a real story, about a real child's journey through cancer.

Dear Mrs Klomann,

Thank you for sharing your daughter's book,  THERE'S AN ELEPHANT IN MY ROOM.  I will be most happy to share it with my staff and schools.  My office does not usually recommend resources but I am sure that after reading the book they will see what a wonderful addition this book will be to their libraries and classroom.

Your daughter should be so proud of her accomplishments through this book.  I will share the information in how to order the book with the Elementary School Principals.  Please extend my congratulations and appreciation to your daughter for writing such an important book for children.

"When I am experiencing afib and troubled by an episode I turn my attention to a
little Princess in Heaven named Colleen Moore. On June 9th this year it will
have been 2 year since Colleen "entered His gates with thanksgiving in her
heart" after a painful battle with cancer. Colleen was 8 years of age. In my
times of anxiousness about afib and when an episode will end – I think of this
little girl and all that she went through and I am humbled - my distress ceases
and I experience peace. This is Colleen's gift to me from Heaven. Thank you
Colleen for continuing to inspire me. 2 months after Colleen passed my mother
suddenly died. I held her in my arms as she was dying and we spoke about Colleen
Moore – I asked mum to look out for Diane's little girl and she said she would.
Like Colleen my mother was a courageous person. They will like each other and I
often visualise them walking through the sun filled meadows of Heaven – laughing
and talking about those left behind and getting ready for the reunion to end all
reunions. There are days when I can't wait!
Finding inspiration and hope and emotional and spiritual support is what this
site is all about for this fibber. Your posts and ongoing advancement of my
education around this condition is critical to my well being. People have rung
me from the US and other parts of Australia to see how I am going. What an
honour it is to be a part of this international family.
I also need spiritual support and that comes from a range of sources. This is
where the spirit and courage of Miss Colleen Moore has become so important to
me.
If I lost my little Princess Molly (3 years) or my Princes Sean (17 years) or
Thomas (15 years) I am not sure that I could have done what Colleen's mother and
father did. They set up a movement dedicated to ensuring that children with
cancer and their families receive quality emotional and spiritual support. Jill
Trotta Calloway recently published a book about Colleen Moore and friendship
entitled "There's An Elephant In My Room..." I received my copy today from the
US and it is another resource in my management of afib kit.
Buy it and you will have a spiritual (not religious) experience that will help
heal your heart. Its only about $16(US) and took me less than an hour to read. I
will be digesting it for many years to come.

I have a picture of Colleen and her grandmother in my treatment room on my desk.
I am a psychologist and from time to time a patient will ask about the beautiful
little girl in the photo. I tell them about Colleen and her grandmother. Talking
about Colleen lifts my spirit to higher ground. Her story helps some of my
patients to put their challenges into perspective – Colleen also provides me
with free therapy!
Information about the book and where you can purchase a copy for a sick friend
or someone you simply want to infuse with unconditional love or inspire
greatness – can be secured at www.striving4more.org"

The Book

My love and thanks to my daughter, Katie, as it was through her eyes that I saw the elephant, and the need for a book like this.

Colleen was an extremely brave girl who whose journey through cancer not only inspired this book, it inspired a movement.

Founded by Colleen's parents, Striving for More is dedicated to ensuring that children with cancer and their families receive quality emotional and spiritual support.
